When I ask my clients what they truly want out of life, the answer is pretty universal. “I want to be happy.”

But what does that mean?

Interestingly enough, “being happy” means something different to each of us.  The answers I have heard when coaching range anywhere from having financial freedom to raising a close family to building a healthy body.

So is happiness really attainable?  Can we really be genuinely happy?

The answer is yes! But, we need to know how.

The best way to figure out the how is to find out what your dream is and live it.

My what?  Your dream!

Your dream is your goal, your reason to live, your legacy, or better stated: Your ONE love. To be happy you must have a clear vision of what it is that makes you happy. That’s your dream.

The best way to clarify your dream is to figure out what it is that you love to do. Do you like to be outdoors?  Do you like to be around people?  Do you want to work mornings, afternoons, evenings? If you could rub a crystal ball, what would you wish for?

If you know what you want, now ask yourself, “How badly do I want it?”  On a scale of 1 -10, with 1 being “Not really” and 10 being “I am fully committed!”, is your answer at least a 7?  If not, you may need to rethink your dream.

If you are struggling with defining your dream this way, then think about what you don’t want.  Write down all the things you absolutely don’t want in terms of a career, relationships or finances, living arrangements, a living environment, and so forth.  Once you discover all the things that you don’t want, you’ll be much closer to uncovering what you do want.

Once you’ve settled on your dream, it’s time to look at how your choices impact that dream. Are your choices goal-affirmative?

Let’s look at your eating choices, for example.  Are you eating foods that nourish your body?  Are you choosing foods that reduce inflammation and promote healing?  Or, are you eating whatever you find, without giving it much thought?

The choices that you make without thinking most often are leading you away from your goal or dream, and ultimately, away from your happiness.

Next to breathing, eating and drinking are the most important things you do each day.  Without food and water, your body will die.  What you put into your system determines your biochemistry.  So, do you want to make organic, clean, healthy cells or are you settling for genetically modified, highly-processed cells?

The choice is yours.

So, if you are ready to be happy, start by making dietary choices that will lead to optimum health and vitality.  When you start feeling good by eating clean, you will have more energy and a clearer mind to tackle those obstacles that are hindering you from reaching your goals.

Here are a few tips to help you eat to support your dreams:

  1. Drink quality, spring water.  Shoot for half your weight in ounces each day.
  2. Get rid of the packaged foods.  If it didn’t come directly from a tree, a plant or an animal, your body won’t like it.
  3. Take time to sit and enjoy the food you have chosen to eat.  Remind yourself of why you are eating it and visualize your dream.

Cheers to happiness!

I’ll see you next time when I share with you how to be happy with movement.
