The Origin

It started with a different kind of question.

In the late 1980s, Paul Chek was working with soldiers on the US Army boxing team. He noticed something unusual: they recovered faster and felt better after working with him. That observation set Paul on a two-decade study of healing traditions, from Western biomechanics to Eastern philosophy, learning from practitioners across a wide range of disciplines.

By 1995, Paul saw a gap in conventional fitness and rehabilitation. Too often, symptoms were addressed without enough attention to root causes, recovery, nutrition, and lifestyle. So he founded the CHEK Institute to teach a more complete system, one that treats the human body as an integrated organism.

CHEK stands for Corrective Holistic Exercise Kinesiology, a methodology built on the principle that the musculoskeletal system, digestive system, hormonal system, and mind are deeply connected.

Late 1980s

The spark

Paul Chek begins developing his integrated approach while working with the US Army boxing team. His teammates heal faster - and he wants to know why.

1995

CHEK Institute founded

Paul formalizes his methodology into a teaching institution in Vista, California. The first practitioner programs launch, training professionals to see the body as a whole system.

Early 2000s

Global expansion

CHEK-trained professionals spread across 27+ countries. Paul introduces the Swiss Ball as an exercise tool for rehab and corrective training. The Golf Biomechanics Manual receives PGA approval.

2004

How to Eat, Move and Be Healthy!

Paul publishes what becomes the Institute's most widely-read book - a practical guide to the CHEK approach for everyday people. Second edition follows in 2018.

2010s

Faculty teaching worldwide

A network of Level 4 CHEK Practitioners begin teaching internationally across North America, Europe, and the South Pacific.
