Since it’s been a long time since I’ve talked about the Swiss ball, I want to share a bit about my history with this beautiful ball and remind you about a few of the many reasons I recommend using them.

My first meeting with a Swiss ball happened at the start of 1988 when I was working for the largest physical therapy clinic in San Diego. I saw this big red ball sitting in a corner but nobody ever used it.

When I asked why no one used this Swiss ball, I was told most people don’t know how to use it. That’s when my inner voice told me to investigate this further…

What I learned very quickly: The Swiss ball had a wide range of applications which led me to produce videos to assist with rehab and conditioning.

Back in the day, you may recall machines were the popular way to train and rehab people, especially those with poor balance.

The proper use of a Swiss ball activates the postural and balance mechanisms people use to perform functional exercises. You’ll never be able to improve someone’s balance by using a machine.

In fact, machine-based exercise builds strength at the expense of stability, leading to all kinds of injuries and trauma.

That deficiency is one of several reasons why you should incorporate the Swiss ball in your training regimen!

Love and chi,

Paul
